What is The "No Scar" Bunion Surgery
This type of specialized surgery leaves little, if any, scaring on the outside of the foot and inside the foot (scar tissue). “No Scar” Bunion Surgery leaves far less swelling than the traditional bunion surgery, which means patients can be back on their feet (2-4 weeks), much sooner than traditional bunion surgery (up to 3 months). Another advantage of “No Scar” bunion surgery is that most patients are able to move their big toe without any problem (mobility).
What is a Bunion?
A bunion often appears as a bony "bump" next to the big toe. This "bump" is an outward sign that the bony framework inside the foot (front part) has changed. Usually with a bunion, the big toe leans toward the second toe, instead of pointing straight ahead as it should. This "leaning" can push several other bones out of alignment.
Is this Procedure less effective than the normal/traditional procedure?
Not at all, This procedure achieves the same correction as the traditional bunion procedure only through a small 5mm incision. This is the analogy that Dr. K uses to explain this:
"If you had a gallbladder removal 20 years ago you probably have a 6 inch scar and you stayed in the hospital for 2 days. Now we are able to remove the gallbladder with two small holes and you go home the same day. Why are we still making big incisions and our patients can’t walk for few weeks after bunion surgery. My procedure can achieve the same result as traditional bunion surgery but through a small 5mm incision and because of the small incision , patients are on their feet faster and they have little to no pain."
